The purpose of the monograph is to identify the ancient roots and sources of the poet's work, having studied the genesis and gradual development of images in the epic poem "Farhad and Shirin", as well as to scientifically substantiate Navoi's mastery in creating images, his contribution to the improvement of the theme and traditions.

The poem "Farhad and Shirin", included in the twenty-volume collected works of Alisher Navoi, is taken as the main source in the monograph. The poem "Farhad and Shirin" ("Ferhadname") by the Turkish poet Lamia Mahmud Celebi is also included in the study. Other works by Navoi, such as "Masnavi" and "Munajat", were also included.
